Celebration Center uniquely offers a program for senior citizens that need moderate physical and emotional care. The staff that works with our seniors truly love their experiences in working with this age group and meet all of the necessary qualifications of the State of California to be senior caretakers. Our amazing staff develop activities such as games that promote brain functioning, arts & crafts, and physical activities that meet the interests and needs of our seniors.
The primary need of the seniors is socialization. In our Seniors program, not only are they given the opportunity to interact with each other and our staff, but also the school age children and preschoolers who visit them on a regular basis. The Senior program room faces the playground with a patio just outside for them to sit and watch the children and/or interact with them. The children and seniors often interact and work together on different projects. These positive interactions are mentally stimulating and beneficial for both age groups.
The socialization that happens between the seniors and children is “magic”! Children often have no experience with older adults and immediately seem to have an affinity for the seniors. The seniors find purpose and joy in assisting and interacting with the children.
We would like to use this opportunity to give a shout out to our seniors’ primary caregivers, the true unsung heroes. One of our goals is to find ways to support the primary caregiver as it is often a struggle to care for an aging loved one.
